Button Snake Root - Liatris spicata
Also known as Blazing Star, Devil's Bit, Gay Feather, and Rattlesnake Master, Button Snake Root is one of the great protective roots of the Hoodoo tradition. Carried or worked into formulas, it is said to ward off both literal snakes and the human kind, untrustworthy associates, backstabbers, and those who wish you harm.
Traditional Uses:
Button Snake Root is a versatile protective curio with a long history in rootwork and folk magic. It is traditionally used to guard against enemies and deceivers, protect against jinxes and crossed conditions, and bring good luck in social situations where jealousy or ill will may be present. It is a classic ingredient in shoe dressings, cologne preparations, and protective mojo work.
Botanical Notes:
Button Snake Root belongs to the genus Liatris, a native North American flowering plant in the Compositae family. The naming of this root can cause confusion, "Rattlesnake Master" is one of several folk names applied to Liatris, but the same name is also given to Eryngium yuccifolium, a botanically unrelated plant that we carry separately in our shop. While the two are considered largely interchangeable in traditional rootwork, they are distinct plants with different appearances. If you are looking for true Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium yuccifolium), please see that listing. This listing is for Liatris root only.
Each listing is for one whole Button Snake Root. $5.00 per root.
Sold as a curio only. Not for internal use.
