The Jean Dodal Tarot is a historic masterpiece among France's earliest Marseille Tarot decks, faithfully reproduced by Kartograme. This edition preserves the original artwork while restoring the vibrant colors to match the historic pigments, including indigo, buckthorn yellow, bladder green, and cinnabar red.
The deck's 78 cards are reproduced from original specimens held in the British Museum. The original cards were created through traditional woodcut printing methods, where paper was pressed onto carved, inked wooden blocks and then hand-colored using stencils. While the engraver's identity remains unknown, the imagery shares striking similarities with other historic decks, notably the 1713 Jean Payen Tarot and the 1639 Vachier Tarot.
This European-produced edition employs small-batch digital printing techniques, achieving exceptional detail and artistic quality rarely seen in modern playing cards or Marseille tarots.
