Sulfur, known as Brimstone in Hoodoo and rootwork, is one of the most potent and historically grounded minerals in folk magic. A staple of conjure, brujería, and protective spellcraft across traditions, it is worked for banishing, uncrossing, hex-breaking, and the removal of crossed conditions and harmful influences.

In alchemy, Sulfur is one of the three primary principles alongside Mercury and Salt, where it represents the soul. Its fiery nature aligns it with Mars, and it has been burned historically to drive out negative spirits and exorcize spaces, though any smoke work should be done outdoors in small amounts only due to the hazardous nature of sulfur fumes.

In practical rootwork, Brimstone is added to hotfoot powder, war water, crossing powder, reversal blends, and boundary work. It is used in sachets, spell bottles, and powders, and employed to purify tools and spaces before protective rites. It can also be used to wash the hands and body before serious spiritual work, preventing residue from sticking after heavy workings or readings.
